About the author, Tom Kerwin.

Tom is Head of Product Design at Relive. He conducted his first user research session in 1999 and has been obsessed ever since with how we can get out of “Thoughtland” faster when designing, building and launching digital products.

He’s coached teams and individuals in research methods, discovery habits, A/B testing and design decision-making.

He’s excited to share this UX Design Tactics deck. It’s for anyone working with a team to bring something new and uncertain into the world. It’s for people who are tired of circular debates about imaginary customers. For people who want to research but struggle to get buy-in. For people who don’t quite know where to start or how to turn research into actionable insights that make a difference.

How the Beta program works

Step 1. Right now

Sign up to the Beta program

There are limited spaces, so your payment today secures your place on the program. It also means you’ll get the complete package (Digital + Physical Deck + Life-time access to The Vault) at no extra cost at launch later this year - so you're also taking advantage of a huge discount.

Step 2. After Checkout

Join the Slack community & meet the authors

You’ll be immediately invited to join the private Pip Decks Slack community, where you can introduce yourself to the authors of the Beta decks and other Beta participants.

Step 3. In a couple of weeks

Give your feedback on the first draft

When the Beta sign up closes (either by reaching capacity or after a couple of weeks), you’ll get to join the private channel for the Beta deck, and the authors will share a digital copy of the first draft. This is your chance to get a first glance and provide your feedback to help shape it.

Step 4. In a couple of months

Get the digital Pip Deck before anyone else

Once the improvements have been made and the illustrations are complete, the Beta program will end and the physical deck will go into production. This is when you’ll receive the final digital Pip Deck as a PDF before it opens up to public pre-sale.

Step 5. Q4 2022

Be the first to receive the First Edition of the final production Pip Deck

Then after the (lengthy 🥵) production and shipping process, you'll be one of the first to receive the physical deck in all its glory! We're aiming for Q4 2022, but it could be earlier if things go smoothly (I'm looking at you... COVID and Global Thermonuclear War). Plus, you'll get early access to the video tutorials and templates for the deck in The Vault as soon as they're ready.

I can't tell you how useful it was to have a community of beta-testers. I learned so much about focussing on what you, the customers need, rather than what we, the writers, thought would work.

A bunch of questions we imagined you might have

Beta Program

Will I get access to the deck straight away?

No. Once you sign up - you will be able to join the Slack channel immediately. But it will be a couple of weeks after signing up before the author is ready to release their first draft.

How much time do I have to devote to the Beta program?

You aren’t obligated to do anything, but you get out what you put in. We’ve found people who dedicate a couple hours a week and actively giving their feedback are the ones who have most influence on the final product.

What if I want to leave the Beta program? Can I get a refund?

Yes. As the Beta has limited spaces, we want to make sure everyone taking part wants to be there. But we understand life events can get in the way.

Can I get access to all the Beta programs at once?

Yes. There is a Super Pass that grants you access to all the Pip Deck Betas we are running this year. This “access all areas” pass gives you a unique insight to see how the decks all work in context of each other (and is super useful for us to learn from!). And you are getting a killer saving instead of buying all the decks individually at full price later this year.

Will I gain any rights or additional compensation if my feedback is implemented?

If your feedback is included in an iteration of the deck - this shall not entitle you to any form of compensation. You are providing your feedback as a gesture of goodwill. By taking part in the Beta, you also grant us a sole and exclusive, perpetual and
irrevocable, royalty-free, licence to use the feedback you submit. You can read our full Terms & Conditions for the Beta here (and they have to be agreed to upon signing up)
