Hello, my name is Aaron Booth and I am a freelance product manager and cloud sustainability consultant.
I wanted to share with you my experiences of using Pip Decks. Pip Decks are a set of cards that you can use to bring expertise into work out of your back pocket. So all you have to do is bring in that deck of cards and all of a sudden you're a workshop tactics master, or you are a storyteller master.
For me, I've used these almost with every single one of my clients in the last nine months. Whether that's just for stuff like project kickoffs or kind of ideation sessions, and generating ideas. But I also use it myself personally, when I organise conference talks.
So I've spoken a couple of times this year with new conference talks and I've used storyteller tactics every single time to try and understand what's the story I'm gonna tell and how to plan it out. I've got really great reviews and feedback from both the clients I've worked with to deliver the workshops and from people who've attended those talks as well.
Like I said, it's a deck of cards. You get all of these tactics cards to organise the sessions for the workshops, for example, and then you add up all the individual parts together. So you've got all of these five different things.
The other thing you get access to as well, if you buy online through the Pip Decks website, you get the workshop tactics deck, but you can also get access to the vault. And that's digital resources and they are so amazing. So not only do you get PDF and image copies of the deck itself, you get access to things like Miro templates and other things that you can use for online workshops. Especially for people who are working remotely, this is so useful.
Like I said, most of my client work is remote. So I use the physical cards to sort of plan out the workshop in my head and get my head around it and plan out a bit on paper before I do it. But I use the Miro templates from the vault to deliver the actual sessions with the people I work with.
Definitely check them out and there's loads more coming up as well in terms of UX design. What else is there? So there's UX design idea tactics, and team tactics as well. So not just about running workshops, but how can you kind of bring together a great team? So, yeah.
From hesitation to daily use
Aaron started using Workshop Tactics with almost every client in his consulting practice. The cards became his go-to tool for project kickoffs, ideation sessions, and generating ideas. But he didn't stop there - he also used them personally when organising conference talks.
For his conference presentations, Aaron combined Workshop Tactics with Storyteller Tactics. He used the storytelling principles to understand what story he wanted to tell and how to plan it out. The results spoke for themselves - he received great feedback from both the clients he worked with and the people who attended his talks.
The remote workshop challenge
Most of Aaron's client work happens remotely, which presented a unique challenge. He found the perfect solution by using both physical cards and digital resources. He uses the physical cards to plan workshops in his head and get organised on paper before sessions. Then he uses the Miro templates from the vault to deliver the actual sessions with his clients.
This hybrid approach gives him the best of both worlds - the tactile experience of physical cards for planning, and the convenience of digital templates for remote delivery.
